The Japan Grand Randonnée was established as a new RM category to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Audax Japan. AJ Hokkaido was selected from a roster of national clubs affiliated with Audax Japan to organize an RM that meets the requirements set forth by Audax Japan. The Japan Grand Randonnée ( which means “a wonderful small trip in Japan” ), will be held regularly as the premier RM representing Japan.
Audax Japan was established in 2004 with the purpose of introducing the long- distance cycling culture of Europe to Japan, through the promotion of BRM and RM events. Today, 26 clubs based nationwide are affiliated with Audax Japan and regularly host BRMs and RMs. During these last 20 years, hundreds of Japanese have experienced the PBP. Many more randonneurs are riding BRMs and RMs held in Japan, while an increasing number of Japanese Randonneurs participate in BRMs and RMs held in the four major continents.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of Audax Japan, we look forward to welcoming the global randonneuring community to the Japan Grand Randonnee, in appreciation for the strong support and encouragement we have received to date.
Audax Japan Hokkaido has hosted the 1200km Nosappu RM in 2010, 2014 and 2016. Based on this track record, Audax Japan Hokkaido is greatly honored to host the first Japan Grand Randonnee 2025 Hokkaido 1200km Cape Nosappu, with the support of Audax Japan and affiliated clubs, Audax Hokkaido is honored to have been selected as the host of the inaugural Japan Grand Randonnee.
Hokkaido is the northernmost island of Japan, and is relatively expansive compared to other parts of Japan. Many people are attracted to Hokkaido’s pristine nature and rich culture. Hokkaido’s dynamic nature and the warm hospitality of the local communities will undoubtedly make the Japan Grand Randonnée an unforgettable experience for all riders.
